Studio portrait of 1741 Private (Pte) John Constantine Lamont, 46th Battalion from North Carlton, Victoria. A 21 year old French polisher prior to enlisting on 12 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 2nd Reinforcements of the 29th Battalion from Melbourne on 29 October 1915 aboard HMAT Demosthenes (A64). After further training in Egypt, he transferred to the 46th Battalion and in June 1916 went with the battalion to France where he was killed in action at Pozieres on 6 August 1916. Pte Lamont is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
