Studio portrait of 2178 Private (Pte) Robert Glendinning Jemison, 10th Battalion from Norwood, South Australia. A 20 year old blacksmith prior to enlisting on 5 March 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 6th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 23 June 1915 aboard HMAT Borda. After serving at Gallipoli, he went on to serve in France where he was wounded in action. On recovery, he rejoined the battalion in France where he was killed in action on 8 April 1917 near Louverval in the Australian advance on the Hindenburg Line. Pte Jemison is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave..
