Studio portrait of 4615 Private (Pte) Bernard Hickey, 16th Battalion from Boulder, Western Australia. A 26 year old miner prior to enlisting on 8 November 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 14th Reinforcements from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT Miltiades (A28) on 12 February 1916. After disembarking in Egypt, he proceeded to France in June and was reported missing in action near Mouquet Farm, France on 31 August 1916. A later report stated that he had died on 1 September 1916 while a prisoner of war in German hands at Grevillers, France. Pte Hickey is buried in the Adanac Military Cemetery, Miraumont, Peronne, France.
