Studio portrait of 2201 Gunner Thomas Fairless Hepburn, 27th Battery, 23rd Howitzer Brigade from Auburn, Victoria. A 27 year old labourer prior to enlisting in the AIF on 5 January 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 107th Battery from Melbourne on 20 May 1916 aboard HMAT Medic. After serving with various artillery units on the Western Front, he was killed in action on 19 April 1918 near Heilly, France and is buried in the Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
