Studio portrait of 4427 Private (Pte) Leslie Grattidge, 24th Battalion from Thornbury, Victoria. An 18 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 8 January 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 21 March 1916 aboard HMAT Malwa. He joined the battalion in Belgium in September 1916 and was killed in action near Transloy, France on 6 January 1917. Pte Grattidge is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
