Studio portrait of 39022 Gunner (Gnr) George Douglas Fordyce, 5th Division Ammunition Column, of Kew, Victoria. A student prior to enlistment, Gnr Fordyce embarked with the 33rd Reinforcements, Field Artillery Brigade, from Melbourne on SS Indarra on 26 November 1917. He was killed in action on 9 August 1918 in France, aged 19 and is buried in the Adelaide Cemetery, Villers-Bretonnuex. He was a cousin of the pioneer aviators Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith..
