Description

Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant Lyle Sanderson Dimsey, 37th Battalion from Geelong, Victoria. A 23 year old salesman prior to enlistment on 6 February 1917, he embarked for overseas with the 7th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 19 February 1917 aboard HMAT Ballarat. After being promoted to Lieutenant (Lt) on 23 August 1917, he was wounded in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 4 October 1917 and died of his wounds at the 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station on 5 October 1917. Lt Dimsey is buried in the Nine Elms British Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium.
