Studio portrait of 3070 Private (Pte) Owen Ruben Comery, 2nd Pioneer Battalion from Perth, Western Australia. A 29 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 13 September 1915, he embarked for overseas service with the 7th Reinforcements of the 28th Battalion from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT Medic (A7) on 18 January 1916. After disembarking in Egypt, he transferred to the 2nd Pioneer Battalion and went with them to France in March 1916. Pte Comery was killed in action at Pozieres on 1 August 1916 and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
