Studio portrait of 1327 Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Allan Fairbairn Campbell, 24th Battalion from Birregurra, Victoria. A 19 year old jackeroo prior to enlisting on 2 April 1915, he embarked for overseas with the Headquarters Company of the 24th Battalion from Melbourne on 10 May 1915 aboard HMAT Euripides. After transferring to D Company at Gallipoli, he fell ill and was evacuated to hospital in Malta and then England. On recovering, he rejoined the battalion in Egypt and proceeded with them to France. L Cpl Campbell was killed in action at Pozieres and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
