Studio portrait of 4763 Private (Pte) Francis John Bond, 12th Battalion, of Ranelagh, Tas. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Bond embarked with the 15th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Ballarat on 18th February 1916. Between the 6th and 10th April 1917 he was killed in action in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. His two brothers, 2011 Pte Richard Bond and 2901 Pte William Bond were also killed in action.
