Studio portrait of 4751 Private (Pte) Eric Simson Bisset, 46th Battalion from Murrumbeena, Victoria. A 27 year old chemist prior to enlisting on 16 December 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 15th Reinforcements of the 14th Battalion from Melbourne on 14 March 1916 aboard HMAT Anchises. Following further training and a period of illness in Egypt, he proceeded to France where he transferred to the 53rd Battalion and then to the 46th Battalion. Pte Bisset was killed in action near Guerdecourt on 14 November 1916 and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave. His younger brother 22919 Driver Alan Ecila Longmore Bisset, 7th Field Artillery Brigade was killed in action on 20 October 1917 in Belgium. [See image H05670.]
