Description

Studio portrait of 411 Private (Pte) Robert Banks, 39th Battalion of Mount Egerton, Victoria. A labourer prior to enlistment on 13 April 1916 he embarked from Melbourne on 27 May 1916 for England before proceeding to France in January 1917. Pte Banks was wounded in action for the first time on 4 August 1917 and was repatriated to England. After recovering from his wounds, he rejoined his unit in France on 20 October 1917 where he served until he was wounded in action a second time on 23 August 1918 and died the same day, aged 23 years
