Studio portrait of 298 Private (Pte) Ernest William Andrews, 44th Battalion from Fremantle, Western Australia. A 32 year old driver prior to enlisting on 4 January 1916, he embarked for overseas service with B Company from Fremantle aboard HMAS Suevic (A29) on 6 June 1916. After arriving in England, he joined the 44th Battalion and went with them to France in November. Pte Andrews was wounded in action on 18 February 1917 and died from his wounds that same day. He is buried in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France.
