These men of the 2/13th Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers, assisted in the making of the first ‘Rats of Tobruk’ medals from bomb splinters. They are Corporal R A Costello and Sapper F R Bignill. This medal was later adopted by all members of the 9th Division Engineers who served in Tobruk.
