A German prisoner 'getting his issue' at ration time in the prisoners of war (POW) compound ...
Description
A German prisoner 'getting his issue' at ration time in the prisoners of war (POW) compound (popularly termed the Bird Cage) at Hoograaf, the day after the Australian attack, on 4 October 1917, at Broodseinde Ridge, in the Ypres Sector, when many Germans were captured. The quality and quantity of our rations, of which the enemy prisoners received the same amount as British troops, amazed the Germans after their existence on meagre supplies of the poorest of food.
