Description

An aerial view of the terrain 15 km south east of the 1st Australian Task Force (1AFT) base at Nui Dat and about 4 km due east of Hoi My over which Operation Bribie was fought between 17 and 18 February 1967. The 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR) was deployed to this area to prevent the easterly withdrawal of the Viet Cong (VC) force that had unsuccessfully tried to ambush Route 44 between Dat Do and Lang Phuoc Hai. Seven soldiers from 6RAR and one trooper from A Squadron, 3 Cavalry Regiment, were killed in action and 27 wounded and the number of VC killed was estimated between 50-70.
