Souvenir printed handkerchief from (A74) SS Marathon : Driver H H Griffith, Field Artillery, AIF
Souvenir white cotton printed handkerchief. A photograph of the troopship A74 `SS Marathon' is printed in the middle at the top. This is flanked by a list of the ship's officers on one side, and on the other by a list of the senior army officers who are in command of the reinforcements aboard the vessel. Below this is a list which is titled `MARCH REINFORCEMENTS, FIELD ARTILLERY, A.I.F., LEFT SYDNEY MAY 10th, 1917'. The list is subdivided by order of rank and begins with lieutenants. The list of drivers includes H Griffith.
Associated with 33948 Driver Hubert Henry Griffith who enlisted in the AIF on 1 November 1916. He was among the March reinforcements of the Field Artillery, which left Sydney on 10 May 1917 aboard (A74) SS Marathon. He served in France with 2 Motor Transport Company and returned to Australia on 21 March 1919.
