Description

Portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) (later Captain) [Elwyn] Roy King DFC DSO of No. 4 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps (AFC). Lt King was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his part in a series of successful bombing raids on targets near Armentieres, including a train, enemy billets and an anti-aircraft battery, between 4-7 September 1918. He was later awarded the Distinguished Service Order on 6 October 1919. Lt King returned to Australia aboard the Kaisar-i-Hind on 6 May 1919.He re-enlisted for service in WW2, reached the rank of Group Captain but died suddenly at RAAF Base Point Cook, Victoria on 28 November 1941.
