The grave of 2178 Private (Pte) Hector Richard Hicks, 8th Battalion, 151 Sergeant (Sgt) Alfred Thomas Poole, 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment and an unidentified British serviceman. Pte Hicks, a shoer from Rushworth, Vic prior to enlistment, embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Wandilla on 17 June 1915. After being wounded in action at Gallipoli, he was evacuated to Malta where, on 20 August 1915 aged 18, he died from these wounds at Floriana Hospital. Sgt Poole, a farmer from Raymond Terrace, NSW prior to enlistment embarked from Sydney on HMAT Star of Victoria on 20 October 1914. Also wounded in action at Gallipoli, he was evacuated to Malta where, on 28 August 1918, aged 21, he died from these wounds at Valletta Hospital. All three servicemen were buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta.
