Pieta military cemetery, Malta. The grave stone of 95 Private (Pte) Donald Angus MacKenzie (Angus) Campbell, 12th Battalion, originally of Gladstone, Tas. Formerly a pastoralist and miner, Pte Campbell enlisted on 2 September 1914 and embarked from Hobart aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) on 20 October 1914. He served at Gallipoli where he was wounded in action. He was evacuated but later died of his wounds aboard the hospital ship Sicilia anchored in Malta Harbour on 28 July 1915. He was aged 32 years. This is also the grave of 797 Pte Jack McCulloch Bruce, 10th Battalion, of Victor Harbour, SA. Formerly a butcher, Pte Bruce enlisted on 29 August 1914 and embarked from Adelaide, SA, aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 20 October 1914. He served at Gallipoli, where he was wounded in action. He later died of his wounds on 29 July 1915, aged 22 years. Both Australians are buried with a British sailor, W H Haskins, HMS Europa.
