Kelly, Peter Edward (Corporal, b.1950)
Collection relating to the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) service of A230491 Corporal Peter Edward Kelly, Rotary Wing Aviation Unit, Sinai, 1983.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a typed and bound memoir, titled "The Sinai" (with cover incorrectly dated 1993), of Kelly's service as a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) airframe fitter with the Rotary Wing Aviation Unit in the Sinai from March to September 1983. The memoir is based on the diary Kelly maintained during the deployment. He writes of his journey to the Sinai via Singapore, Sri Lanka and Abu Dhabi, his accommodation, and settling into life with the MFO. Kelly also discusses his work with the Rotary Wing Aviation Unit, the difficulties sand and dust posed to the Unit's Iroquois helicopters, leave in Tel Aviv, Cyprus, Jerusalem and Greece, visiting the Golan Heights, his interactions with Egyptians, Israelis and United States personnel, observing Anzac Day at Beersheba, recreation, and his return home. Photographs, maps and scans of documents are interspersed throughout the text.
