The collection consists of five diaries and their typed transcription. In detailed daily entries, the diaries describe his training, based at Qastina, Palestine, as a gunner and involvement in defensive preparations; participation in fighting against Italian forces in North Africa (Tobruk, Derna, Barce and Benghazi); transfer to Greece, and failing to be evacuated, capture by the Germans; experience between April 1941-December 1944 as a prisoner of war in prisoner of war camps Stalag XVIIIA (Wolfsberg, Austria), Stalag XVIIIB (Spittal, near Salzburg, Austria) and Oflag IIIC (near Parsberg, southern Germany). The prisoner of war sections of the diaries comment on work and recreational activities, food and medical matters, Red Cross assistance, and security and escape attempts.
