Description

Alexishafen, New Guinea. 2 May 1944. The 2-pounder gun (right) on a motor launch in action against Japanese gun positions on the coast north of Alexishafen. Three Motor Launches (MLs) made a sweep of twenty miles of coast line searching for the positions and destroyed them. Each ML carried Army Officers to direct the ships fire. On the order the 2-pounder gun forward and the two Oerlikors guns amidships and aft, plus four Brownings on the bridge and the .50 calibre machine guns opened fire simultaneously.
