Description
Alexishafen, New Guinea. 2 May 1944. A soldier mans a .50 Browning machine gun on one of the three Motor Launches (MLs) that fired on Japanese hutments and gun positions on the shore during a sweep of twenty miles of the coast line north from Alexishafen. The three MLs carried Army Officers to direct the ships fire. On the order the 2-pounder gun forward and the two Oerlikors guns amidships and aft, plus four Brownings on the bridge and the .50 calibre machine guns opened fire simultaneously. The positions were destroyed. Note the spent shell casings on the floor of the launch.
