Description

After new arrivals have signed in, they are billeted for their short stay in tents. Indian bearers carry their kit. The first of many reinforcements for South East Asia Command are reaching India by air, five days after leaving England. They are being flown out in Douglas C47 Dakota aircraft of RAF Transport Command. Initially air trooping is being carried out on a small scale. There are six staging posts between the termini, a west of England airfield, and Poona, India, and two forty-eight hour rest periods en route. Hot coffee, tea, and hard rations, are supplied in the aircraft, and each man is provided with two books for light reading on the flight.
