Description
A composite image comprising a dead German soldier (E00927) and an exploding shell burst added to the background. The lower part of the photograph is a ghastly sight in a shell crater near Zonnebeke, in the Ypres Sector, showing the body of a youthful German who lost his life in no man's land, during the attack by the Australian troops at Broodseinde Ridge on 4 October 1917. This image was produced by Frank Hurley, Official War Photographer.
