Description

Personal papers of Chaplain John Boardman VD and his son, Captain John Sunbeam Boardman, 56th Battalion. Reverend Boardman served with the Bushman's Contingent in the Boer War and on troopships during World War 1. His small collection of papers comprises printed testimonials relating to his service in South Africa and a photocopy of a church bulletin containing a letter by him outlining his service as a chaplain on troopships and briefly in the Middle East. The bulk of the papers of Captain John Sunbeam Boardman comprises approximately 40 letters received by him from a close woman friend. They contain references to domestic matters and especially their emotional relationship over the period December 1941 to May 1943. There is also a letter written by him as a young child in 1915 to his father, a small amount of correspondence with his family and various service documents and official correspondence dating through to the 1980s.
