Adelaide, SA. C. 1902. Studio portrait of 2662 Bugler Herbert George Mitchell Cole, C Squadron, 4th Battalion, Australian Commonwealth Horse who served in South Africa between April and July 1902. Bugler Cole was a member of the 8th Contingent of the Australian Commonwealth Horse, who all enlisted in South Australia. He is wearing the uniform of the South Australian contingent and the Queens's South African campaign medal. The bugle he is holding to his lips is in the collection of the Australian War Memorial.
