Description

A brief history of No. 30 Squadron RAF operations against the Japanese in Burma covering the period from October 1944 to the capture of Rangoon in May 1945. Produced by Ernest McKenzie and Wentworth Mainwaring of No. 30 Squadron RAF and narrated by Bob Pollard. The film consists mainly of gun camera combat film with additional footage extracted from the newsreel "Aussies in Burma" (AWM F10195). The four Australians featured in the opening scenes of the film are in order of appearance: Pilot Officer K. Godfrey, Flying Officer M. Kidd, Warrant Officer Wentworth Mainwaring and Pilot Officer Ernest Alex McKenzie. The gun camera film includes aerial combat with Japanese Nakajima "Oscar" fighters over Rangoon and attacks on ground targets by strafing, dive bombing and napalm. Targets attacked include, Mingladon airfield at Rangoon, Arakan, Akyab, Kangaw, the Japanese Headquarters at Koolang?, Tatlandoo?, the Bangla? bridge, village of Arn?, Magra? Airfield, Ramree Island, and Lekpan?.
