Kairiru Island, New Guinea, 1945-06-18. Aerial view, taken at an altitude of 200 feet from the rear gun position on the side of a United States Army Air Force (USAAF) Consolidated B-24 Liberator, showing a steep jungle-covered hill rising from a sandy beach on the island's shore. Some huts are standing among trees along the shoreline. The aircraft is on a reconnaissance mission to Kairiru Island from No. 163 Crew Replacement and Training Center USAAF at Nadzab airfield. The island was still in Japanese hands at this time.
