Description
Chipyong-ni area, Korea, 1951-03. Members of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), queue up at a mess parade at the IX Corps rest area where the battalion is taking a well-earned break from operations. At centre, a cook is ladling out soup or stew from a large dixie into the smaller dixies from which soldiers eat. The soldier with the mug in his hand (left) is 2/45200 Staff Sergeant Vince Bennett. Hanging up behind his head is an empty shellcase that is serving as a dinner gong. Several of the soldiers are wearing pile caps and windproof jackets. (Donor I. Robertson)
