A Taliban fighter named Shafiullah, 21, looks for mobile phone signal on the roof of a burnt-out Ford Ranger beside the ruins of army barracks at the Headquarters of the Afghan National Army's 1st and 2nd Kandak (Battalion), 5th Brigade, 203rd Corps, in Dasht-e Top, Sayedabad district, Wardak province. According to Taliban fighters who were occupying the base, the ANA soldiers burned the barracks before they abandoned the base, fleeing over the hills to the east toward Logar province approximately one month before the Afghan capital Kabul fell to the former insurgent group.
