Collection relating to the service of 3875 Private William Charles Matthews
Description
Studio portrait of 2677 Private (Pte) Norman John Heath, 56th Battalion, AIF. A messenger of Surry Hills, New South Wales, Pte Heath enlisted on 22 May 1916 and embarked with the 6th Reinforcements to the 56th Battalion from Sydney in October of the same year. Pte Heath was killed in action in France on 2 April 1917. His portrait is inscribed in the lower right corner, 'N. J. Heath, Surry Hills, 1917.'
