History / Summary
This egg was painted by 8 year old Richard Stephen Naylor between 8 May 1945 and 2 September 1945. Naylor was born in Burwood, NSW and was living at Lakemba during the Second World War. Naylor remembered his teacher at Belmore South Public School telling the class about the end of the Second World War in Europe while explaining Australia was still at war with Japan.
The former German Chancellor, Adolf Hitler, was described in unflattering terms in the class, and it was some time after this that Naylor painted the egg.
