Identified, left to right, back row: 33506 Flying Officer (FO) Torres Davey 'Ferry' Ferris RAAF, navigator of Northbridge, NSW; 411825 FO John Charles Prichard RAAF, pilot and captain; 24878 FO Charles Russell Norton RAAF, bomb aimer of Lismore, NSW; 414604 Flight Sergeant Harry James 'James' Simpson RAAF, rear gunner of Brisbane, Qld. Front: 1506699 Sergeant (Sgt) C Johnston, flight engineer of Manchester, UK; Sergeant I Grant, mid upper gunner of Birmingham UK; Sgt G Campbell, wireless operator of Ayr-on-Tyne, Scotland.
Most of this crew took part in a mission to Mannheim on 5 September 1943 and were shot down, Simpson was killed, Prichard suffered a broken spine and, with others, was taken prisoner of war.
