RAAF pilots at Balliol College, Oxford, UK. Left to right : 433238 Sergeant (later Warrant Officer) Vladimir Sticka of Prague, Czechoslovakia; 433543 Sergeant (later Flight Sergeant [Flt Sgt]) Ashley Roy Thomas Holden of Sydney, NSW; and 437282 Flight Sergeant (later Pilot Officer [PO]) Norman George Steer of Adelaide, SA. Flt Sgt Holden died of disease in England on 14 September, 1945, while attached to 14 ACHU RAF, and is buried in the Chester Cemetery in the UK. PO Steer went missing on operations with 455 Squadron, RAAF on 15 October, 1944 while attacking shipping in the Frisian Islands off the Dutch coast. He has no known grave.
