Description

Kurikonta, Thailand. c. 29 September 1945. Kurikonta cemetery, containing thirteen Dutch and eleven British graves of prisoners of war (POWs). The cemetery was near the Australian camp at Kurikonta. Kurikonta is approximately 257 kilometres north of Nong Pladuk (also known as Non Pladuk), or 157 kilometres south of Thankyuzayat. Shown in the cemetery are: Lieutenant (Lt) J. Eldridge, Lt Schroder, Signalman G. Kindrid, and Lt J. Leemon. Photographed by the War Graves Commission survey party whose task was to locate POW cemeteries and grave sites along the Burma-Thailand railway. They also took the opportunity to recover equipment and documents which had been secretly buried, under instructions from senior POW officers, in the graves of deceased POWs.
