Colt Model 1878 Double Action Army Revolver : Corporal W T Annison, 1 Commonwealth Horse
Colt Model 1878 Double Action Army Revolver. The revolver is nickel plated and the barrel top has the makers name and address. The frame is stamped 99. MD. The grips are black checkered ebony with the Colt prancing horse trade mark.
This Colt revolver was carried by Corporal William Thomas Annison who enlisted initially in the NSW Infantry transferring to E Squadron 1st New South Wales Mounted Rifles in 1899 for service in South Africa, returning to Australia in January 1901. He enlisted again at Wagga Wagga in January 1902 with the 1st Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse for his second tour of South Africa, returning August 1902. Annison was promoted to sergeant on 5 July 1902 and received the Queens South Africa medal with the clasps for Diamond Hill, Johannisberg, Orange Free State and Cape Colony.
