Bayard Model 1912 Pistol
Bayard Model 1912 semi-automatic, single action, pocket pistol. The pistol features a six groove, right hand twist barrel and a detachable inline six round magazine. It has a thumb operated safety as well as a magazine safety. The frame is nickel alloy metal and has a blued finish. Spot rust is evident on all metal surfaces. The pistol grips are manufactured from plastic and are screwed to the frame with sloted head brass screws. The following markings are on the pistol - Anciens Etablissements Pieper, Herstal-lez-Liege; CAL 6.35 Modele Depose; manufacturer's cypher; Figure of knight with lance on horseback; BAYARD on plastic pistol grips. The pistol is deactivated.
This pistol was taken from a German prisoner by an unknown officer during the Middle East campaign who served in a machine gun battalion with either the 2nd/1st or 2nd/3rd Battalion Australian Imperial Force.
