Description

A concert party of Adelaide entertainers performed for troops at the Australian Task Force base at Nui Dat in Vietnam this week. The big crowd of about 1500, heavily sprinkled with 5th Battalion soldiers leaving for home in a few days, were in a receptive mood and enjoyed the show. From early in the morning troops arrived at the location for the show, Luscombe bowl, armed with chairs and cans of soft drink. Once the show got under way the crowd stretched up the dusty sides of the bowl around the stage. Even Diggers sporting minor wounds turned up. As always the girls in the show were what the boys were waiting for and they got a big reception. Going through their paces are the Wills sisters, Anne and Susan, who are on their second visit to the war zone in a concert party. They were here last in October. Ricky and Tammy, otherwise known as Jurij and Tamora Osypenko, a brother and sister vocal duo, were also popular with the Digs, particularly a number on an Arab sheik. They too have been to Vietnam before, about two years ago, but not for the Australian troops. The other singer is Bev Harrell and the band is Phil Cuneen, organ, Trevor Milburn, drums, and Roy Wooding, guitar. The Adelaide concert party arrived in the war zone on the 8th and will be in the country until the 18th entertaining both Australians and Americans. From Vietnam they will go to Singapore-Malaya to visit Australian bases there. An Adelaide concert party entertains Australian diggers in Vietnam.
