Description
Riencourt, France, 1917. An Australian soldier, probably a member of the 2nd Divisional Signals Company, 1st AIF, sitting on the remains of a wall in the ruined church in the town located southeast of Bapaume. Hanging on the wall at rear is the church's crucifix, which has only lost its right arm in the damage from artillery shelling of the building.
