History / Summary

Awarded for service during the Boer War between 1899 and 1902. This medal was acquired by Albert Elsdon, who had served as a private in the Durham Light Infantry, after he emigrated to Australia, to replace his lost Queen's South Africa Medal. The original recipient's name has been erased but can still be read - 239 Private Henry Archibald Mears was a member of the 5th Queensland Imperial Bushmen's Contingent.
