Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection includes original letter and diary written by QX2933 Driver James George Donoghue during his service with the 2/33 Battalion in the Middle East. The letter, dated 25 March 1941, describes his voyage from Australia to the Middle East via Durban (South Africa) and England, and conveys Donoghue's first impressions of service and general conditions in the Middle East, including additional training. The diary covers 31 January 1942 to 6 April 1942, describing various experiences including: convoy and reconnaissance duties, enemy actions, comments on troops and officers, recreational activities and a return voyage to Australia.
Collection also includes an official letter, dated 28 June 1940, from Administrative Headquarters, Redbank (Brisbane, Queensland) to Donoghue's family regarding an unsuccessful attempt to locate Donoghue.
