Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of 428864 Flying Officer Ronald Leslie Tanner, No. 149 Squadron, Royal Air Force, England, 1944.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one letter from Flying Officer Ronald Leslie Tanner to his wife, Enid Marcelle Tanner (née Lewis). This letter, dated 22 September 1944, was intended by Flying Officer Tanner to be sent to his wife if he did not return from an operation. In his letter, Flying Officer Tanner writes about his love for his wife and son, and his longing to return home to see them again. He dwells on memories that they shared, writes about people that he was thankful for, and says farewell. After one operation, Flying Officer Tanner returned late. Believing that he would not return, the Air Force mailed the letter to Enid Tanner.
