The logbook contains a summary of Shepherd's flying experience between 22 December 1916 and 7 February 1917 [his first logbook was lost whilst on sick leave], and detailed entries on flights made from 8 February to 3 July 1917. Against the entries Shepherd has made brief notes on flying conditions, patrols, and encounters with German aircraft.

The folder includes two AIF certificates of instruction, Shepherd's certificate of commission into the RFC Special Reserve of Officers, his certificate of appointment to the Distinguished Service Order, a Mention in Despatches certificate dated 7 November 1917, and his Commemorative Scroll.

Folder 2 of 3 - Consists of six letters concerning Shepherd's service and death with the RFC. The folder includes a 5-page letter to Shepherd from his sister Edie, dated 7 September 1917, hoping that he is no longer missing, expressing pride at his awards of the Distinguished Service Order and Military Cross, and detailing recent family news. Four subsequent letters, sent to Shepherd's mother, contain confirmation of Shepherd's death, offers of condolence and details regarding his fate. Correspondents include Lieutenant (later Air Commodore) Arthur Wray and Major Charles Chapman.

Folder 3 of 3 - Consists of five letters and documents concerning Shepherd's service and awards. Among these are a 'thank you for your sympathy' card from the Shepherd family, letters sent with Shepherd's commission certificate, service medals and Memorial Plaque, and a Record of Service letter from 1982, detailing Shepherd's postings, promotions and awards in the RFC.
