Collection relating to the First World War service of 2937 Private John William Stein, 47 Infantry Battalion, England and France, 1917 - 1918.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Collection comprising eight letters from Stein to his sister written during the period 13 February 1917 to 9 March 1918. In these letters Stein largely writes about attending cookery school at Tidworth, sightseeing in London and correspondence with family and friends. His last and only letter from France makes note of the relative quiet of his surroundings and friends in both France and Australia. Stein was killed on 5 April 1918 during a German attack on Dernancourt.
