Group photograph of the Ellendale Cricket Team 1914/1915, Tasmania. 2306 Private Arthur Clark is in the back row, 1st on the Left. 2304 Private Alfred Clark in in the back row, 3rd from the left.

Arthur and Alfred were brothers who brothers grew up in Ellendale, Tasmania. Arthur worked as a farmer and Alfred was a labourer. They enlisted together on 21 September 1916, embarking from Melbourne aboard HMAT Port Melbourne (A16 ) on 21 October 1916. The two served together, with friends describing them as inseparable.

Alfred was 25 when he was wounded in action on 7 June 1917 at Messines Ridge. He died from the wounds later that day in the 2nd Casualty Station, France. Arthur received a shoulder wound during the same action, however he rejoined the unit on 10 June 1917. He fell ill on 3 July 1917 from valvular disease of the heart (VDH) and was sent for treatment at 11th Casualty Station, France. Arthur was 24 when he died from wounds after an air-raid strike on the facility on 7 July 1917.
