Description
Lancaster, England. 1945-08-08. Miss P. Wilson, left, and Miss N. Smethurst, both of Melbourne, Vic, both members of the Australian Red Cross, wave goodbye as the troopship Orion leaves Liverpool wharf. The Orion was carrying the largest RAAF repatriation draft to leave Britain since the end of the war in Europe and sailed from Liverpool. Six hundred of the 706 draftees were ex-prisoners of war (POWS), the last of the ex-POWS left in Great Britain, except about 100 who remained for rehabilitation purposes.
