Letters relating to the death of Ronald Henry Etherton, 1944
Letters relating to the Second World War service of 423088 Flight Sergeant Ronald Henry Etherton, 76 Squadron, Royal Air Force.
Ronald Henry Etherton died while taking part in a bombing mission on 13 August 1944. This file contains letters by his sweetheart, Jean Ayre, that were returned to her after Etherton’s death. In her letters to him, Jean writes about her holiday at a lake with her family, being back at work, correspondence with his sister Edna, receiving pictures of him, getting a new coat, being recommended for a raise, baking cookies for him, and going out to see a show. Jean often reminds Etherton of her love, remembers the good times they had shared together, and anticipates the future hopefully.
This file also contains official correspondence informing Jean of Etherton’s death and a telegraph from Ronald’s family to Jean, as well as a letter from the mother of a member of Etherton's crew, Evelyn Brownlee.
