History / Summary
Major Rodger Shanahan was given the first letter during a patrol to the river that marked the boundary with West Timor and arranged to meet the TNI commander the next day with Lieutenant Colonel Nick Welch, the commanding officer of 3RAR. They repatriated hundreds of people over the next few days.
